Those who have learning experience in a pure English environment during the high school are exempt from applying for TOEFL

It is believed that many applicants do not know that among the top 100 universities in the United States, nearly 50 universities clearly states on their official websites that if the applicant has the experience of learning in a pure English environment during high school, the TOEFL application can be exempted. Among them are Stanford University, Duke University, some University of California, Emory University, New York University, University of Rochester, Santa Clara University, University of Washington, College of William & Mary, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Case Western Reserve University, The University of Miami and other world-renowned universities favored by Chinese students.

Take New York University, which is the most popular among Chinese students, as an example. Its official website states that applicants who have not obtained a high school diploma from an institution that uses English as the teaching language need to submit TOEFL/IELTS scores. In other words, if the applicant's high school is taught in English, there is no need to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.

Universities that can apply without SAT scores

Regarding standardized tests, due to the epidemic, many American universities have adjusted their submission policies for SAT/ACT test scores. There are four different policies. The details are as follows:

Test-Optional

schools mean that you can submit them selectively Your standardized test scores are not mandatory, you can mention them if you want, and you will not lose points if you don’t mention them. Of course, if your standardization is very good and you want to submit it as an application material, these universities will also accept it. Representative schools such as Carnegie Mellon University, etc. Schools like

Test-Blind

will not consider your standardized scores at all. In other words, even if you have already got a satisfactory SAT or ACT high score, you submit it, sorry, these universities will selectively ignore it. Most representative schools such as the UC system: All UC system schools will no longer consider SAT or ACT scores in applications for fall 2021 through spring 2025. Standardized test scores submitted by all students will not be sent to UC admissions officers and will no longer be considered for scholarship applications.

Test-Required

means that the university requires the submission of SAT/ACT scores. If the applicant does not submit the scores, the application materials are considered incomplete. Before the pandemic, standardized test scores were required for almost all college applications.
